Middle School Reform

- In order to be promoted to high school, middle school students must complete 12 core academic courses (three each in English, math, science and social studies), and one course in career and education planning.
- Every middle school in the state of Florida must offer at least one high school level math class for which high school credit may be earned.
- Students must complete a personalized academic and career plan during the seventh or eighth grade through the Florida Academic Counseling and Tracking for Students (FACTS.org) online advising system.

- In order to graduate with a high school diploma, ninth graders must earn 16 core credits and eight elective credits consisting of:
- 4 English
- 4 Math
- 3 Social Studies
- 3 Science
- 1 Fine Arts
- 1 Physical Education
- Students must select an area of interest as part of their personalized education and career plan, similar to college students, in which they will earn four credits in a major area of interest. Areas of interests may be in the arts, advanced academic studies or career preparation.
