  While Florida grew on average 23% in the last decade, Collier County grew by 65%; Lee County by 31% and Charlotte by 27%. The two interior counties of Hendry and Glades grew at a slower pace bringing the average rate of growth for the region to approximately 22%.
  55% of the population are between the ages of 18 and 64 (20% are 17 years or younger; and 25% are over 65 years of age). A 16.7% growth of citizens between the ages of 18 and 24 is expected before 2005 in SW Florida (compared to a national growth projection of 4.99% and a state growth projection of 13.6% in the same age group).
  Median age in Lee County is 42 and in Collier is 40.7 years.
  There are 23,910 businesses in Southwest Florida.
  Over 350,000 people are in the workforce of Southwest Florida.
  The Nation’s newest public university, Florida Gulf Coast University, calls SW Florida home.
  Postsecondary educational options include Edison Community College, International College, Barry University, and county vocational/technical centers. Lee County has two high tech centers: High Tech North and High Tech Central; Charlotte has the Charlotte Technical Center; and Collier for the Lorenzo Walker Institute.
  Within area high schools, there are increasing options for students. For example, partnerships have created Tech Prep, Career Academies, Internships, and 2+2 opportunities and options for students.
