Miracle Plus: Immokalee after school program: 

“Miracle Place…where students begin to discover their futures by finding their unique leadership qualities in new roles and responsibilities as citizens, decision makers and leaders.”

  • All schools (6 elementary, 1 middle, 1 high); 1000+ students (average daily attendance is exceeding 100%); 12 hours a week; certified teachers, paraprofessionals, field experts
  • Funded by 21st Century Community Learning Center grant (Federal through State)
  • Academic Focus: goals in reading, math and science
    • Tutoring
    • Homework Assistance
    • Direct and Disguised Learning
  • Personal Enrichment: art, sports
    • Citizens of Miracle Place
    • “Jobs” in their Miracle Place community
    • Leadership through 7 Habits of Happy Kids (Be Proactive; Begin withLearn more about The Leader In Me Book the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First To Understand, then to BeUnderstood; Synergize; Sharpen the Saw)
    • Middle and High School students work with 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
    • “Leadership is communicating people’s worth and potential so clearlythat they are inspired to see it in themselves.”  (S. Covey)
  • $1,723,680 annual budget

SES-21st CCLC Coordinated Program:  Immokalee tutoring and after school programs

  • Funded by Federal grant to develop a coordinated program that leverages the resources of an afterschool program and Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
  • Increase number of students served and the number of students that complete both programs
  • Increase student achievement 
    • excerpt from 9-30-10 report – “For grades four, five and all students for the FCAT mathematics assessment and for grade five and all students the FCAT reading assessment gain scores for enrolled students were higher than the non-enrolled eligible students.”
  • Partnered with two research institutes: McREL (Mid-continent Research in Education and Leadership, Denver) and AIR (American Institute of Research, Washington, DC)
  • Provide professional development for teachers, tutors and paraprofessionals
  • Create common culture for adults:  7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Stephen Covey)
    • Facilitating workshops for over 125 people
    • A third group will begin in January
  • $1.3 million over 3 years

Leader for Life

Mentor Program:  Collier and Charlotte Districts

  • Funded by State grant for 1 year (continuation to be determined after year 1)
  • Training and coaching high school students to become mentors for middle school students in 4 high schools
  • Begin in December 2010
  • $400,000 for year 1

Speed of Trust Workshop Facilitation

  • Certified "Speed of Trust" facilitators are available to work with groups within the region for a 2-day workshop
  • "Speed of Trust" was developed by Stephen M. R. Covey to develop trust within departments, organizations, and other groups of people. Participants learn skills and language associated with gaining and extending trust

Accelerated College Experience

Early Admission/Dual Enrollment Program

  • Year 5: available to 11th and 12th grade students
  • Cohort size range 30-35
  • Majors: shift from education to science/engineering
  • Majority remain at FGCU to complete 4-year degree
SEEDS

Volunteer Mentor Program for Early Literacy

  • In 7th year
  • 70 volunteers (retired professionals) work with Pre-K students
  • Structured lessons aligned with ELLM

 

 

 

 


 

 


2010-2011 ELLM:   Early Literacy and Learning Model and WOW: Wings on Words

  • In 70 Pre-K classrooms in Collier County; serving ~1,100 at-risk 4 year olds
  • Funded by NCEF grant
  • 2010 Apple Blossom, Golden Apple, and Early Learning Coalition Educator of the Year winners were ELLM teachers who credited ELLM with their successes in the classroom
  • Standardized assessments used to measure student learning (PPVT, EVT, ALRI)
  • Strong foundation in professional development and coaching





7 Habits of Highly Effective People Workshop Facilitation

  • Certified "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" facilitators are available to work with groups within the region for a 2-3-day workshop
  • The "7 Habits" workshop is based on the best-selling business book by Stephen Covey
  • Workshop is also the foundation for schools embarking in the Leader in Me process
